When the activities we genuinely enjoy align with one or more of the five elements, we not only feel better – we can actually see our progress. As a result, we’re able to measure each contribution and, more importantly, by using the happiness calculation we can witness our happiness grow along the way
Your Happiness Calculation Score
To begin, think of your Happiness Score as a snapshot of your overall well-being across the five key elements. Then, take this simple first step to move forward by using the following calculation:
Step 1: Rate each element on a scale of 1-10. For example, you can fill in based on how fulfilled you feel generally or use it to assess individual activities
Happiness Element | Score |
Physical | 6 |
Social | 7 |
Educational | 4 |
Spiritual | 3 |
Personal Relationship | 2 |
Step 2: Add your scores and divide by 5 to get your average Happiness Score.
Example:
(6+7+4+3+2) / 5 = 4.4
Your Happiness score is 4.4
Choose Activities to boost one or more of the Happiness Elements. If you’re unsure where to start, check out the lists of activities under each of the Happiness Element pages, or try three new activities you’ve never done before. As a result, each new experience helps you learn more about what brings you joy and which activities you want to continue. Remember, variety is important – sometimes revisiting past activities with a fresh perspective can deepen their impact on your happiness.
It is possible to have multiple pre-built entries for the same Activity. E.g. Having a meal can contribute to the Happiness Elements in many ways:
Beneficial to your body – Physical
Eating with a group of friends – Social
Exploring a new cuisine – Educational
Experience may lift you spirits – Spiritual
Sharing with someone special – Personal
Relationship
